Grand Hôpital de Charleroi
The Grand Hôpital De Charleroi is using the inauguration of its new hospital on the "Les Viviers" site in Gilly as an opportunity to completely revamp its identity and brand architecture. The aim is to streamline and structure its network to make life easier for both patients and staff. Transitioning from the acronym "GHDC" to the full name Grand Hôpital De Charleroi gives a feeling of status and strength to the organisation as a whole, while clearly communicating the mission and values that drive its teams everyday: positive health!
Challenge
GHDC is the result of a merger between several Charleroi hospitals, and when construction began on the new hospital, the question of its name inevitably arose. This sparked a deeper reflection on the company’s purpose, structure, and brand image.
Solution
Using interviews and workshops, the vision, mission and values were shaped from within, ensuring that they are shared by everyone involved. Replacing the acronym "GHDC" with the brand name "Grand Hôpital de Charleroi" restores a sense of status and strength to the organisation as a whole. A new graphic identity was also created, reflecting the unique nature of "positive health" and giving it a distinctive and specific personality.
Impact
- Today, the Grand Hôpital de Charleroi stands as a modern, united and ambitious institution, dedicated to healthcare and constantly evolving.

A shared foundation
Brand architecture is built around a single brand. This identity framework brings together all the group’s sites, centres and departments under a single banner, whilst respecting their individual characteristics. This clear structure enhances the network’s consistency, makes it easier for patients to navigate, and highlights the unity of the hospital group.

A true icon in the making
The new logo is based on two universal symbols, the H and the +, whilst incorporating a structure inspired by the architecture of the new hospital. This open design reflects a commitment to evolving over time, making progress and building a healthier future. The emblem has become the symbol of an institution in a state of constant transformation, one that is both robust and optimistic.

Positive typography
The typeface, designed specifically for the project, captures the brand’s dynamism and energy. Its dynamic negative space and open forms evoke continuous learning, openness and optimism. It gives the Grand Hôpital de Charleroi a tone that is both institutional and human.
